She is the character that changes everyone she meets, whether it is for the good or the bad. Tracy has been on the streets the longest out of all the runaways and can tell who will make it and who will not.

She is the thread that ties all of these characters together and makes them somewhat of a “street family”, if only for a while. The second to last character is Laura, a girl who could go really far in life, if only her mom would learn to keep her boyfriends to a limit and away from her daughter. The next character is Squid, who ran away with his girlfriend, Anabelle, only to have her ditch him, and his not-so-scary dog, for a movie producer. On to Critter, a heroin dealer with movie star looks that acts really tough, like he does not care about anyone, but has a vulnerable heart.

Next is Scabius, who has been on the streets for what seems like forever, with no background story, no home life, he is just an abusive teenager looking for a place to belong. Then there is Rusty, a gay teen that comes to California only because his boyfriend promises to meet him there where they can start their new life, but ends up just ditching him. The book starts off with Eeyore, who runs away because of a secret she feels she cannot tell either of her parents, especially her ditzy step mom, Linda. Almost Home by Jessica Blank is a general fiction about seven teens and the troubles they have run away from and confronted in their young lives.
